Let the Politicking beginning

As a rule, I hate to discuss Nigerian politics, may be it’s the way it is done in Nigeria that puts me off or may be its the players knack for the absurd (forget about the cross carpeting and Ghana –Must Go) that could make any sane grown person develops apathy towards such things .

However tonight’s news story changed all that for me, pray tell me, how do you explain what took place in Akwa Ibom state today! Am sure you may have missed the story (most of us who watched the story on Channels News this evening may also have missed).

One of the aspirant for the position of governor (endorsed by ex-Governor Attah) just promised women at a rally that he would continue to pay their sons (who are graduates ) that have no jobs till they get one and instead for people to ask how, he was cheered on (while the women danced their lives away).

Now you know Nigeria has a big problem, if one who is aspiring to lead them in that state, thinks he can get by with this such a frivolous statement, then anything is definitely possible in 2011, just watch this space.

First does he (the aspirant) have the statics of the unemployed in the state (maybe it just 20 of them), even if he did, how many people in the state truly qualify for this benefit, how much does he intend to pay them and for how long and from who’s pocket? Plenty questions abi? Nobody asked him and most likely would not (quite unfortunate I say).

It smacks of hypocrisy on the part of the elected and the people to be governed, when things don’t work in the state and a politician is allowed to go scot free with such an utterance.

Let me start by first saying am not from Akwa Ibom state and it is possible I may have offended some people by this article (I really do apologies), the question am just tempted to ask again, is how come someone who is schooled (?) can imagine that such a yarn will be bought by people in this age but ironically it seem they did (just wandering how they intend to hold him to that promise in the future)

More people (old and new) are declaring their interest in readiness for 2011 but I am just worried (and I believe many well meaning Nigerian are) that if this is the type of people that would hold exalted positions in the Niger Delta area.... then Nigeria still have a long way to go.

Let the tokenism stop and let the real politicking and the service to the people beginning....
